Job Title:

Extrusion Department Lead Operator

Position Summary:

The Extrusion Department has an opening for a Lead Operator. Candidates must be willing to work on any crew, have excellent safety performance, job consistency, demonstrated teamwork, a positive attitude as well as excellent attendance and proven ability in their current position.

Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:

Under the general direction of the Extrusion Manager, this position is responsible for the management of the extrusion department to ensure the safe and efficient utilization of manpower, machinery and materials to produce quality HDPE grocery film.

  • Understand and follow all JSA s and safety procedures/policies
  • Safely and efficiently set-up and operate extrusion lines to produce high quality HDPE film
  • Operate extrusion lines in accordance with job safety analysis, standard operating procedures, quality procedures, and operator training to meet or exceed productivity requirements and minimize downtime and waste
  • Ensure that proper materials are being used in accordance with procedures
  • Monitor roll weights to ensure the correct gauge is maintained throughout the shift
  • Assure proper packaging and labeling of film
  • Complete daily production reporting
  • Supervises the Extrusion department operations on their shift
  • Oversees the safety performance and awareness of the department.
  • Maintains housekeeping to expected levels.
  • Ensures consistent product quality for the department including, testing methods and use of process improvement tools.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office Suite (MS WORD, Excel, etc.)
  • Maintains accurate materials records and adequate inventory of raw materials.
  • Works closely with the plant engineer/maintenance supervisor in the development and maintenance of a preventative and operational improvement program for the departments.
  • Participates in long range planning of department equipment and manpower requirements. Implements those plans through hiring and training of employees, coaching for performance, budgeting, equipment and labor utilization programs, generation of capital improvement projects, driving productivity improvements, etc.
  • Responsible for training department employees in the areas of safety, quality, technical knowledge, troubleshooting skills, etc.
  • Performs all month end closing duties for Extrusion, including inventory reconciliation, etc.
  • Coordinates and leads productivity improvement initiatives for the department: scrap reduction, output improvements, etc. Utilizes appropriate productivity tools to accomplish these goals: Lean, Scrap Studies, Six Sigma, etc.
  • Performs appropriate analysis of departmental data. Utilizes appropriate databases or spreadsheets to track data and publish reports, findings and recommendations.

Candidate Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background and drug screen
  • Ability to work 12 hour day and night rotating shift
  • Work overtime as required
  • Satisfactorily complete training courses as determined by management

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
